Florence Ranik

Florence Margaret (Widmer) Ranik, age 99, of Lake Havasu City, AZ., died Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at Lake Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

She was born May 8, 1908, in Highland, IL., the daughter of Maurice and Caroline (Speckart) Widmer.

Mrs. Ranik attended St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis, MO and then returned home to help raise her parents large family with the early death of her mother. At age 29 she returned to the workforce and had employment in St. Louis at Stix, Baer & Fuller; McDonnell Aircraft and several other businesses. For a number of years, she operated Kingsley Florists on the St. Louis Northside. While a resident of St. Louis, she was active and recognized for her involvement with Police/Community Relations Programs; a Senior Center and other projects with mayor A.J.Cervantes and his brother, Father Cervantes, she was also one or the founders of the Highland Girl Scouts Troop.

In 1984 she moved to Lake Havasu, AZ where at the age of 77, she met and married John Ludlow. John passed away in 1994. In 1998 Florence married Norman Ranik and the two of them spent 9 wonderful years together. They enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV, seeing all that there was to see.

Florence was active throughout her life in many organizations. She was past president and an alumni of the St. Elizabeth's Academy in St. Louis, MO and member of Daughters of Isabella for 78 years, member of the Catholic Daughters of America in Lake Havasu, a Western Welcome Member, belonged to the Extension Club for the University of AZ, was an oblate member of Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David, AZ, and belonged to the Lake Havasu Senior Center.

She was a member of Lady of the Lake Catholic Church-Lake Havasu City, AZ.

She was also a member of Daughters of Isabella, Sacred Heart Circle #237 Highland; and a former member of St. Paul Catholic Church-Highland.

Survivors include Husband-Norm Ranik of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Brother-Cletus M. "BUZZ" Widmer of Highland, Ill., Sister-Rose (Robert) Arendt of Alexander, Minn., Sister-Lillian (Clinton) Kerin of Highland, Ill.

She was preceeded in death by Father-Maurice F. Widmer, Mother-Caroline M. Widmer, nee Speckart, 1ST HUSBAND-John Ludlow, married 1/24/86, died May 1994, Brother-Joseph E. Widmer, died 12/30/1991, Brother-Fred Widmer, died 5/10/84

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.

Service Information

Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 15, 2007, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL., with Rev. James Palakudy, SAC, St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL officiating.

Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, Ill.

Memorial contributions may be made to Daughters of Isabella, Sacred Heart Circle #237.
