Margaret S. Johnston

Margaret S. (Hurley) Johnston, age 82, of Highland, IL., died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland, IL.

She was born February 28, 1924, in Perry, MO., the daughter of Howard and Blanche (Boothe) Hurley.

She married Major William A. Johnston, USAF Retid , who passed away April 9, 1990.

Born at Perry, Missouri, on the (Centennial family farm) she moved to St. Louis after High School, worked as a telephone operator. Moved to California, married and traveled with her husband in his Air Force Career to South California, Washington D.C. and Scott Air Force Base, where he retired after 32 years of service. They lived at O'Fallon, IL. She worked at Garland's and Famous Barr in St. Louis, retiring from Famous Barr. She had lived in New Baden; and in 2002 moved to Highland Health Care Center, Highland, IL. She was a private person. She loved animals. Her Hobbies were sewing, taking walks; as a youth she enjoyed swimming and was very athletic.

Survivors include Son-James Scott (Debra) Johnston of Saint Louis, Mo., Son-William Patrick Johnston of Dallas, Texas, Daughter-Tracy E. Johnston of Chesterfield, Mo., Sister-Mary Lou Reiser, Perry, MO, Sister-Jean (Gilbert) Harlan of San Juan Bautista, CA.

She was preceded in death by Husband-Major William A. Johnston, USAF Retid, Father-Howard Hurley, Mother-Blanche (nee Boothe) Hurley, Daughter-Jacqueline Johnston (died @ age 6 months, in 1959), Brother-Thomas Hurley, Sister-Betty Rodenbaugh, Brother-"Buck" Hurley (as a child), Brother-Anna Gertrude Hurley (as a child).

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.

Service Information

Graveside Service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 28, 2006, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO.

Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.

Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society.
