Rose B. Mewes
Rose Barbara (nee Kuepfer) Mewes, age 88, of Pocahontas, IL., died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Decedent's Residence in Pocahontas, IL.
She was born July 14, 1917, in Carlyle, IL., the daughter of William and Eliza (Hartman) Kuepfer.
On August 11, 1934, she married Field E. Watson. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1963. On December 18, 1965, she married Howard W. Mewes, who survives.
Mrs. Mewes was born in Wheatfield Township, near Carlyle, IL. She grew up on the family farm. Following her marriage, she and her first huband had lived in Jamestown, IL and then moved to Highland, IL. Following his death, she returned to live in the Jamestown, IL area. She had worked at C.J. Hug Truck Company in Highland and then from the late 1950's until retiring about 20 years ago, she had worked at Basler Electric Company in Highland. Mrs. Mewes enjoyed her large flower gardens. She and her husband harvested and preserved fruits and vegetables for many years from their garden. She knew "everyone", was an extraordinary cook, enjoyed visiting with and participating in her groups, clubs and organizations.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Jamestown, IL., Women's Guild of the Church, the Pocahontas Senior Citizens, Basler Electric Retirees Group, and Local 840 at Basler's.
Survivors also include, Son-Harold V. (Aleen) Watson of Breese, Ill., Grandchild-Sherry J. DesJardins of Makanda, Ill., Grandchild-Carolyn M. (Scott) Frenz of Pocahontas, Ill., Grandchild-Joann C. (Brett) Tiemann of Chatham, Ill., G-Grandchild-Zachary S. Desjardins of Pocahontas, Ill., G-Grandchild-Darcie L. DesJardins, G-Grandchild-Devin M. Tiemann, G-Grandchild-Andrew R. Tiemann, Sister-Edna Foehner of Bonne Terre, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st Husband-Field E. Watson, who died 7/17/63, Half Brother-Walter Drake, Half Brother-William Drake, Half Brother-Dale Drake, Brother-Harry Keupfer, Brother-Willard Kuepfer.Service InformationArrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Saint Paul United Church of Christ in Jamestown, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Saint Paul United Church of Christ in Jamestown, IL., with Pastor Don Propeck, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at Jamestown Cemetery in Jamestown, Ill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jamestown Cemetery Association.
