Donald D. Vaughn
Donald Dean Vaughn, age 76, of Highland, IL., died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.
He was born December 15, 1929, in Mulberry Grove, IL., the son of Harry and Mildred () Vaughn.
On February 7, 1953, he married Betty R. Vaughn, nee Burger , who survives.
Donald was born at Mulberry Grove, IL; grew up in Greenville. He joined the US Army in 1948 and served for 3 1/2 years stationed in Japan. He had worked at Highland Machine & Screw in Highland; Granite City Steel; and then as a Laborer out of Local #397 - Granite City. Prior to his retiring in 1986, he had Laborer for Illinois Power for 18 years. He and his wife had lived lived in Highland for 23 years and then moved east of town to live on her family's farm for the past 30 years.
He enjoyed hunting; fishing; bowling; woodworking (craft items); camping at Carlyle with friends; gardening; playing cards and liked being outdoors.
He was also a member of Highland Masonic Lodge #583; VFW Post #5694;
Labors Local #397, Granite City.
Survivors include Wife-Betty R. Vaughn, nee Burger of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Debra R. (Scott) Berndsen of Highland, Ill., Son-Larry D. Vaughn of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Barbara M. (Rob) Barnett of Saint Peters, Mo., Grandchild-Christa A. (Matt) Huelskamp of St. Louis, Mo., Grandchild-Shana K. Liening of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Lacey D. Vaughn of Highland, Ill., Gr-Grandchild-Zachary D. Barnett of Saint Peters, Mo., Bearers-Members of VFW Post 5694 of Highland, Ill.
He was preceded in death by Father-Harry L. Vaughn, Mother-Mildred A. Vaughn, Mother&Father-in-law-John H. & Bertha A. (nee Oswald) Burger

Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL., with Rev.Dr. David Beebe, Interim Senior Pastor Evangelical United Church of Christ Highland, IL officiating.
Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; American Cancer Society.
