Alvin E. Helmich
Alvin Ervin Helmich, age 87, of Marine, IL., died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, MO.
He was born August 26, 1922, in Edwardsville, IL., the son of Charles and Otillie (May) Helmich.
He married Dorothy J. Gildersleeve on October 13, 1951 in Edwardsville, IL. She passed away July 17, 1971.
Alvin was born in Pin Oak Township in Madison County. He grew up on the family farm and he farmed there his entire life. He had worked for the IL State Dept. of Transportation, then Madison COunty Highway Dept over 20 years. He was a Church Council Member at the United Church of Christ of Marine in 1955 when the new church was being built in 1955.
Alvin pitched horseshoes in the Marine Summer League, was an avid Cardinals Fan, was very active in the Marine Lion's Club Pork Sausage Sale.
He was a member of United Church of Christ of Marine.
He was also a member of Marine Cemetery Board;
Madison County Farm Bureau;
Marine Lions Club (Past President and Charter Member;
Former UCC of Marine Church Council;
Charter Member of Marine Vol Fire Dept.
Survivors include Daughter-Nancy J. Helmich (Significant Other Kirk M. Meyer) of Marine, Ill., Sister-in-law-Mary Ann Helmich of Greenville, Ill., Nephew-Russell A. (Ruth) Helmich of Cypress, Texas, Niece-Darlene E. (Bill) Southworth of Ashland, Ore., Niece-Sandy (John) Sullivan of Bloomington, Ill., Gr Nieces & Nephews-Many .
He was preceded in death by Father-Charles E. Helmich (1961), Mother-Otillie E. Helmich, nee May (1940), Daughter-Rose Ann Helmich (died 1961 @age 2 1/2), Sister-May L. Helmich (died 10/30/1999), Brother-Tilden H. Helmich (died2009), Brother-William C. Helmich, Brother-Milton W. Helmich (died 1949), Brother-Arthur O. Helmich (died 12/24/1993), Brother-Paul E. Helmich (died 1941), Infant Twins-Infant Brother & Sister Helmich (died 04/09/15)
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.Service InformationVisitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Thursday, July 22, 2010 at United Church of Christ of Marine.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at United Church of Christ of Marine in Marine, IL., with Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Drewer, Retired UCC Minister officiating.
Interment will be at Marine Cemetery in Marine, Ill.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marine Fire Dept.
