Thomas R. Poss, Sr.
Thomas R. Poss, Sr., age 84, of Highland, IL., died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at his residence.
He was born February 23, 1926, in Lebanon, IL., the son of Homer and Laura (nee Ohl) Poss.
On October 14, 1950, he married Rosalie Ann (nee Ratchford) Poss, who passed away December 10, 1999.
Born at Lebanon, IL; moved to Highland after marriage; served in U.S. Marine Corps during WW II with duty in South Pacific as a cook; worked construction; owned and operated Green Lantern Tavern in Highland; worked as TV repairman at Broadway Battery in Highland; purchased Family Inn Restaurant in 1978; retired 1994; enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, turkey shoots at VFW and American Legion. Loved his family and grandchildren.
He was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL; VFW Post 5694, American Legion Lee Iten Post 439, both of Highland, IL; and former member of Highland Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include Son-Thomas R. Poss, Jr. of Miami, Fla., Son-Gordon S. (Helen) Poss of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Diana P. Rogers of Highland, Ill., Seven Grandchildren-Sarah R. Nungesser of St. Louis, Mo., Jessica R. (Phillip) Caro of Ardimore, Okla., Dori M. (Michael) Taylor of New Baden, Ill., Zachary T. Poss of Highland, Ill., Danielle R. (Shawn) Fitzpatrick of Highland, Ill., Ian P. Poss of Highland, Ill., Thomas J. Huff of Highland, Ill., Five Great Grandchildren-Lauren E. Caro, Dante M. Taylor, Timothy M. Taylor, Emily D. Caro, and Michiah L. Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his Father-Homer Hartford Poss, Sr., Mother-Laura (nee Ohl) Poss, Wife-Rosalie Ann (nee Ratchford) Poss, Brother-Homer H. Poss Jr. (died l/18/2005), Brother-Oliver Gordon Poss (died August 1939 at age 8) and Brother-Duane Poss (died 1989).
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.Service InformationFuneral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL., with Fr Aloysius Ndeanaefo, Parochial Vicar, St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL officiating.
